In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - maritime historian at Campbell University and former merchant mariner - examines the efforts by the Republic of Korea (South Korea) to support their shipbuilding industry against competition from Japan and China. These issues include rising steel prices and shortages; the importation of foreign workers and use of low-cost subcontractors; and using the profits from HMM (which is under Korean government ownership) to infuse $2 billion into the shipbuilding sector.
