Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she will vote to acquit President Donald Trump on Article 1, the impeachment charge for abuse of power. Collins said the president's July call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "was improper and demonstrated very poor judgment." She also said it was "wrong" for Trump to mention Joe Biden during the call. However, Collins said that the House managers did not sufficiently show how Trump's conduct, "however flawed, warrants the extreme step of immediate removal from office."
On Feb. 4, senators weighed in for a second day on whether they would vote to remove Trump from office. The speeches come one day before the Senate decides whether to convict or acquit Trump on two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. After the Senate voted last week to bar new witness testimony and subpoenas for documents, Trump’s acquittal has seemed all but assured. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December.
