7:54Now PlayingConservative YouTuber, comedian, and podcast/radio show host Steven Crowder decided to go to #SXSW to “crash the stage” during a scheduled talk featuring the Young Turks, more specifically the main guy at TYT, Cenk Uygur. Cenk has had this happen to him before, most notably at the 2016 RNC during the Presidential Campaign where most of the TYT on-camera talent and Cenk himself were broadcasting live on location at the RNC. Alex Jones, very popular conservative radio show host (some would label him a conspiracy theorist) and YouTuber decided to crash The Young Turks’ live broadcast. He did not do what Crowder did which was dress up as Cenk and make fun of his key tropes and sayings. What Alex Jones did was just come up and play the “nice guy” role so to speak. Cenk wasn’t prepared for it and the ensuing anger from all of the Young Turks, especially Cenk himself, made for hilarious content.
This time, however, Cenk seemed to be prepared and the audience was of course, on Cenk’s side. Because they all obviously came out to see The Young Turks specifically, as this was a scheduled talk in a room where only they were at. Crowder appeared to have tried to capture some of the classic essence of Alex Jones vs Cenk Uygur at the RNC with his “stage crashing” but it did not go over well at all. It fell flat and made for very cringey content. It was cringey for those of us that even enjoyed the actual comedy skit Steven Crowder did on his YouTube channel where he dressed up as Cenk and also Ana Kasparian, another well known person over at The Young Turks.
Crowder has hit and miss content sometimes due to the comedy being a little stale. His best content in recent memory was where he debated Joe Rogan on Rogan’s podcast about marijuana. Things got heated to the point it looked like Crowder was going to walk off the show. But he stayed and they were both able to get some good points out even if admittedly tainted by Rogan, and maybe even Crowder, being drunk. The argument showed two different points of view within conservatism which illustrated us as not being one big monolith. Different points of view to arrive at the same destination should be welcomed. As should the Rogan v. Crowder type of content, not the cringey, forced Cenk Uygur v. Steven Crowder type of content.
