It seems that movie marketing is becoming much more celebrity-based. A recent example was the movie Dune. Zendaya was in the movie for about 7 minutes, while posters and advertisements majorly showcased her. Did viewers get ripped off?
Was this a marketing scheme? Movies have used celebrity actors to star in their movies since the beginning of moviemaking. Movies use celebrity actors to separate their movies from the others. When we think of Camp Rock, we think of the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. When we think of the Fast and Furious franchise, we think of Vin Diesel. It’s a smart marketing tactic and it works.
[Marvel SPOILER ALERT] Harry Styles is the most recent celebrity shown in the Eternals end-credits scene and will star in an upcoming Marvel movie. Marvel is trying to expand their audience and rope in Harry Styles’ dedicated fan base. Marvel fans will see the film no matter what, but now theaters will be filled with previous One Direction and current Harry Styles fans. This will give Marvel an even bigger fan base.
