On Instagram, motivational speakers can be heard saying, "Why waste your time making someone else's dream come true when you can spend your time making your own?"
The question is, is working in an office the same as selling time? Yes, that's exactly what it is. That's how the transactional dynamic works. Time is money.
The whole point of having a job is that you provide a service in exchange for money. If you're a painter, a musician, or whatever else you do, you're selling your time in exchange for money. That's exactly how it works.
When people ask, "Well, what are the benefits of working for myself versus working for someone else"? There are many.
Do you have ownership? Yes.
Is it possible that you will be able to cash out in the future? Without a doubt.
However, there is the disadvantage of working a lot and not being compensated. People don't think about it, and you can work and work and work, but if you fail, you won't get that time back. So you're taking a significant risk there, and it's what gives you the right to own something.
Investment banking, private equity management, and consultancy are the most coveted vocations. None of these are related to entrepreneurship. They are all corporate jobs. They would prefer to be a passenger rather than a driver.
And there's nothing wrong with it; not everyone is born to lead. There must be those who follow, and they must be the majority, not the minority.
When you work, you don't get equity, but you do get compensated. You have a guarantee that you will be paid, regardless of whether the owner makes money or not.
As a result, there is always a trade-off with anything you do. If you want to worry about yourself, you won't get paid much until your business begins to prosper. And if you work for someone else and have a contract, you know you're going to be paid.
You may not obtain ownership, but you will be paid every time, regardless of whether he is paid or not, and that is the luxury and the trade-off.
Some people have it pretty well, going out there, finding a safe, secure, and consistent work, and then living their lives from there.
What are your thoughts? Do you think your job is the same thing as selling time? Let us know in the comments.
