Are you someone who frequently orders food? So I'm going to order a sandwich. $14 for a great chicken parm, $3 for a side of fries, and $2 for a diet beverage. If you've been keeping track, this should come to $19. So, what makes my lunch $24.88?
To begin with, they imposed a temporary fuel surcharge on me.
The app states that this is an extra charge since fuel costs have risen so much in the United States that the driver's cost of doing business has become too high, implying that my $25 will purchase a brand new tank of gas for the driver.
There is now a delivery fee, which the app describes as an additional price to cover shipping costs. So this pays for extra gas, and then there's an uncertain $5 tax and fee charge.
The taxes were slightly over a dollar, but the $4 was a service fee because the other two prices apparently didn't cover all of the costs of delivering food by this point. I believe you get my point.
Customers are charged with too many hidden fees by apps like Uber Eats, Doordash, and Grubhub, and many of these service charges don't even go to the driver; they all go back to the corporation.
So, the next time you want to order food, consider the pricing.
