1:01Now PlayingLooking to buy a new car? I wouldn't. Buying a new car is now pretty much limited to the rich as prices and interest rates have surged, and cheap cars are being discontinued every day. Let's put it this way. If you make less than 50k a year, you probably can't afford anything right now.
And small, affordable sedans are being discontinued and replaced with ultra-luxurious, gas-guzzling SUVs- just what we needed. And if you spring for a new car, never mind a discount, you might pay over sticker price. Yikes. And used cars are, of course, expensive right now as well.
Meanwhile, only people with perfect credit are getting low-interest rates. So if you have bad credit or more or less credit, you're looking at a more than 20% interest rate on used cars and only a hair less for new cars. So, the next time your allegedly successful friend pulls up in a junker, you might offer them a compliment. They are smart for avoiding the car market for now.
