Research over the past several decades has indicated that ADHD is a risk factor for loneliness. Some people with ADHD present as being “different” or awkward in interactions because they miss social cues or have less appreciation for the personal space of others, and this can lead to social rejection. Hyperfocused ADHD-driven behavior, particularly in the computer age, can also lead to isolation.
