The prefrontal cortex plays a prominent role in symptoms of ADHD, but in recent years brain imaging and activation research has implicated other brain structures, including the amygdala. Although the studies are not completely consistent, those with ADHD appear to have smaller amygdala that differ in how they are connected to other brain regions.
