Vitamin D is most closely associated with stabilizing calcium levels in the body and ensuring healthy bones. But many areas of the brain are rich in Vitamin D receptors. A number of mental health conditions (depression, schizophrenia, autism, ADHD, dementia) are associated with low blood levels of Vitamin D - at least part of which is due to the health conditions leading to behaviors (avoiding sunlight, non-nutritious diets) that contribute to low Vitamin D.
