YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThe Republican Party has been working on changes to their debate format for quite some time, and they've now got less than a year to get things finalized. They have some incredibly stupid and chaotic ideas that are somehow gaining traction, and it could mean that the debates will be an absolute free-for-all - and that probably won't look good to voters. Farron Cousins discusses their ideas.

The Republican Party is gearing up for what they're calling themselves, chaos in the 2024 Republican primary. They admitted shortly after the midterms that they're expecting upwards of 20 candidates to actually throw their hats into the ring. Although really the only one who's done it so far is Donald Trump. And Trump thought he could announce early, keep all the Republicans out and know that hasn't happened whatsoever. So we're gonna have a very crowded Republican field. And of course, a crowded Republican field means crowded Republican debates. Now, back in the summer of 2015, when those Republican debates started, you know, months before any of the caucuses or primaries actually, uh, got underway, we had those Republican debates. Remember we had two sets of debates. We had the debates with the real candidates, the one that actually had good poll numbers and good fundraising. Then the next night we had kind of the, you know, junior varsity, the second tier, second string, uh, debates, which nobody really watched.
Republicans wanna avoid that this time. So they've been meeting for a couple weeks now, trying to come up with a way to make the debates better, right? Make 'em more fair. And of course, the big thing they want to do is get rid of moderators. So instead of having anybody up there that's going to direct 10 wackos and to ask them questions and tell them when to shut the hell up, they're just not gonna have that. Instead, a plan that's gaining traction actually from former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, is to, God, I wish I was making this up cuz it's so stupid. And they're gonna, they're like, they're leaning towards doing this. Every candidate is gonna have their own clock and it's gonna have a set amount of time, same amount of time for everybody on the stage, and they're gonna be in control of their own clock.
So what they get to do is when they're ready to talk, they start their little timer and they can start talking and then they can stop talking and stop their timer, right? So if you're given 15 minutes, you can talk for three, stop your timer, it goes to the next person and then they start theirs. They talk however long they want. But if you blow through your whole 15 minutes at first, then you're done. The rule is at that point, they cut off your mic. You're no longer allowed to talk for the rest of the time, but apparently you still have to stand there like an idiot, as everybody else says, their peace. Um, that is the dumbest idea. But I gotta tell you, in terms of must see tv, I really want that to happen. How hilarious would it be to see Donald Trump up on stage? You know, Mike Pence over here, Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, probably, uh, Ted Cruz, Nicky Haley, all those other freaks. They're gonna be up there. Trump's gonna get his clock and he is just gonna start talking and
He's gonna blow through his time before anybody else. Then he's not gonna be able to speak again cuz they will have turned his mic off and then everybody else gets to dog on him for another two hours. Like he is going to go ballistic. That would be the funniest thing on the planet. And then of course, you're gonna have complaints from people like, well, I, I forgot to start my clock. I didn't stop my clock. That's not fair. I get extra time because my clock is broken. It's not working. They would act like a bunch of children who've never interacted with technology in their lives. It would be the funniest thing in the world to see. And what's even funnier about these stupid ideas that are going to create chaos is that the Republicans are considering them in order to get rid of chaos. So their plan to address the predicted chaos is to create absolute anarchy upon the stage
Here's what Mike Huckabee actually said about having moderators up there, which he thinks is the worst thing ever. Moderators are at best, useless, and most often hurtful to the process. A real debate is about the candidates, not the printing. Pretty people from the anchor desk who make it about themselves really. Let me ask you this, the Republican debates the summer of 2015, who were the moderators off the top of your head right now without looking it up?
