Republican Blasts Party For Switching From Cult Of Trump To Cult Of DeSantis

Former RNC spokesperson Tim Miller has some harsh words for his fellow Never Trumpers - and the rest of the Republican Party: Don't hop from being a cult of Trump to being a cult of Ron DeSantis. Many Republicans are flocking to DeSantis without actually realizing that he's just a clone of Trump, and definitely without realizing they're just switching from one false idol to another. Uh, Tim Miller recently pushed out an op-ed in the conservative paper, the bull work, where he warned Republicans to not immediately jump into the cult of Ron DeSantis after leaving the cult of Donald Trump. And I think this is such a brilliant piece, and I think it's such a brilliant concept. It's something that I didn't think of before, but now that he says it, it's like, holy crap, that is what's happening. So before I read you, let me just kind of explain the basic premise here. Miller says that he's not gonna be one of those people that just blindly goes to Donald Trump. Miller was a never Trumper. Uh, so he says he is not gonna go blindly to Ron DeSantis. Excuse me. I said that wrong at first. But he says he sees too many people already doing that, especially the Never Trumpers, because they're looking out there like, oh my God, we need somebody. Hey Ron DeSantis, his name's not Donald Trump. Let's just go to him. He's now the greatest thing since sliced bread. We love you, Ronnie, instead of We love you, Donny. It's very easy to actually change those signs too. So you know, it helps him a lot. But Miller says, let's not rush to do that, because the last time we did that, we ended up with a Donald Trump. So let me read this.

I will not be a human shield for Ron to protect him from all the hard and not so hard questions about Donald Trump, for example, you might feel like it is not strategic for him to state clearly that it's bad for the man. He supported for president twice to have had dinner with one of the nation's leading white supremacists. I will not give him a pass when he refuses to provide an answer. Any answer about whether or not he thinks Donald Trump's coup attempt was a good thing or a bad thing, given that his only comments to date were supportive of the coup. That type of ostentatious service to the irredeemable monster who wanted to turn this great country into an autocracy shows a lack of judgment. So extreme for me, and I suspect many other never Trumpers, it is forever disqualifying. But then of course he says like, listen, I'm okay with if it is DeSantis being the nominee, right? He has a couple conditions. But you know, that's irrelevant to the main point here. The main point, of course, is that Republicans are desperate for a leader. And they have been, this was actually something I've been talking about over at Ring of Fire since George W. Bush was president Republicans latched onto Ronald Reagan. And for decades after that acted like Reagan himself was a God. The dude wasn't, you know, overwhelmingly loved while

He, he was in office. He wasn't overwhelmingly hated like the Republicans we have today. But he did some pretty horrible things, a lot of horrible things, by the way, that have lasting consequences to today. And looking back, most people now are like, yeah, I'm not exactly keen on Reagan, but Republicans latched onto him because he was a leader and he was a winner. They didn't really have that with George W. Bush. They tried it, but nah, he just wasn't that kind of, you know, fire rod, lightning rod, fire rod, I'm sorry, that was weird. But then along came Donald Trump, right? He finally filled that void that Republicans have been trying to fill since Reagan left office. But in their desperation to crown somebody, the new leader, they created a cult. And now that they realize that it, oh my God, that was a cult. Now they're like, but what about DeSantis? He's kick, yay, DeSantis. And now they're doing the same thing again. That's what Miller is warning against. And he also points out that DeSantis is pretty much identical to Donald Trump. It's the same candy in a different rapper, but like so many other Republicans, even Miller at the end of it admits, you know what though? I'm kind of okay with this candy at the end. So he warns people not to fall into that trap before ultimately falling into that trap.
