0:51Now PlayingOperation Sea Lion was Nazi Germany's plan to invade Britain during World War II. Conceived after the fall of France in 1940, the operation aimed to eliminate the British resistance and force the country into submission. The plan involved a massive amphibious assault across the English Channel, with the German army landing on the southern coast of England.
However, Operation Sea Lion faced numerous challenges and obstacles. The Royal Navy's control of the English Channel posed a significant threat to any German naval convoy attempting the crossing. Additionally, the British RAF's victory in the Battle of Britain denied the Luftwaffe the air superiority necessary for a successful invasion.
Hitler postponed Operation Sea Lion indefinitely in September 1940, opting to focus resources on the Eastern Front. The failure to invade Britain marked a turning point in the war, preserving the country as a base for Allied operations in Europe and signaling the first significant setback for Nazi Germany.
