YouTube Description

as posted by the channel

In the second half of the 1930s a deadly proxy war broke out in Spain. It started with a coup in 1936 by Nationalists that overthrew the unstable Second Spanish Republic which had existed from 1931. It overtrew the Popular Front movement that represented moderate left to far left-wing parties. Those on the right called themselves the Nationalists and those on the left the Republicans.

The Nationalists won because of their more professional units, secure economy and food supply, order behind the lines and foreign backing. One of the backing legions was the Condor Legion which consisted of German troops that fought on the side of the Nationalists during the Civil War. The Germans bombed the Spanish town of Guernica, which was later immortalized by Picasso.
