0:59Now PlayingGeneralplan Ost was Nazi Germany's secret plan during World War II for the colonization and Germanization of Eastern Europe. Conceived by Heinrich Himmler and the SS, the plan aimed to drastically alter the demographic landscape of the occupied territories: Poland and the USSR. The objective was to deport, enslave, or exterminate Slavic populations, including Poles, Russians, and Ukrainians, to create "living space" (Lebensraum) for German settlers. This genocidal scheme envisioned the elimination of over 50 million people through hunger (this was named the Hunger Plan) and the settlement of Germanic populations in their place. Implemented through brutal military campaigns and occupation policies, Generalplan Ost resulted in widespread atrocities, including mass executions, forced relocations, and starvation. Although it was never fully realized due to Germany's defeat, the plan left a legacy of immense suffering and loss in Eastern Europe. Generalplan Ost is a stark reminder of the horrific ambitions of Nazi ideology and its catastrophic impact on millions of lives.
