Uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage is what protects you against drivers that are driving in Florida without any insurance. Florida has a problem with a lot of drivers out there that get insurance and cancel it as soon as they get their license. Or, undocumented immigrants that come into Florida and drive with no driver's license and no insurance. Well, they still cause injuries sometimes, unfortunately. And, if that happens and you don't have any underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage, there's not going to be any insurance coverage for the injuries you sustain in an accident. If you do have UM insurance, then you're covering yourself and your own injuries as a result of the accident.
