1:00:28Now PlayingA bill that would establish regulations for autocycles came before the Committee on Transportation and Public Safety on Monday, April 4. The bill put forward by Senator Leroy Stumpf, DFL – Plummer, would allow autocycle operators to use their current drivers license rather than obtain a motorcycle license.
Autocycles are federally classified as motorcycles, but have many similarities to cars, creating a gray area in federal law. The machines are three-wheeled motorcycles that have a steering wheel and do not require the operator to straddle or sit astride.
The bill was amended to allow an autocycle owner to choose between motorcycle and car insurance,. The measure passed the committee on a voice vote.
