1:54:55Now PlayingThe Senate gave its final approval Wednesday, March 29, to a measure, sponsored by Senator Jeremy Miller, R-Winona, dedicating $208 million dollars to efforts designed to improve economic growth and job creation. The bill ignites competitive grants to assist organizations in stimulating job growth, and invests in the Minnesota Investment Fund, the Job Creation Fund, and the Redevelopment Grant Program.
Key provisions include allocating $20 million dollars to expand broadband throughout Minnesota; developing a youth training program that introduces students to manufacturing jobs; providing incentives for Digi-Key's expansion in Thief River Falls; and assisting North Market establishment a grocery store, health and wellness facility in North Minneapolis.
The bill also would aid the "Helmets to Hardhats" program, assisting veterans with career opportunities in the construction industry.
Senator Ron Latz, DFL-St.Louis Park, added a major provision to the bill during floor debate. The amendment would prohibit internet companies from collecting and distributing the web browsing data of its users.
