29:47Now PlayingLegislators and community leaders held a press conference Thursday, March 8, urging lawmakers to lift the statute of limitations on criminal sexual conduct and sex trafficking crimes. Senator Sandy Pappas, DFL-St. Paul, and Representative Ilhan Omar, DFL-Minneapolis, will sponsor the legislation in their respective bodies.
According to attorney Jeff Anderson, homicide is the only crime that does not have statute of limitations, because "the murderer is uniquely suited to conceal often times the evidence of that crime. So it is in rape and childhood sexual abuse," he said.
According to the legislators, the bills will be introduced during the Thursday, March 8, floor sessions, where they will be referred to the appropriate committees for consideration.
