31:45Now PlayingSenator Bobby Joe Champion, DFL-Minneapolis, and Representative Raymond Dehn, DFL-Minneapolis, were joined by the Commissioner of Corrections, county attorneys from Ramsey and Hennepin, former prisoners and other advocates at a State Capitol press conference Thursday, March 7, calling for the restoration of voting rights to people who have served their time.
Currently in Minnesota, voting rights are restored for released prisoners following probation or supervision, which according to proposal advocates, could take decades. The proposal would allow people to vote after they have been released from jail rather than after parole. Currently, thirteen states provide earlier voting rights.
