26:59Now PlayingOn a nearly unanimous vote of 61-2, the Senate passed a bill that would allow school districts to hold fewer instructional days than required by law. Sponsored by Senate Education Chair Carla Nelson, R-Rochester, the bill only applies to the 2018-2019 school year as a result of the numerous cancelled school days due to inclement weather and conditions.
An amendment offered by Senator Susan Kent, DFL-Woodbury, that would have limited the number of excused days to the three polar-vortex days in late January failed to win Senate approval. Kent said her proposal better aligns with the House bill.
If the Senate-passed measure and the House proposal differ, a conference committee will be chosen to reach a compromise bill.
