1:32:29Now PlayingMinnesota sports gamblers would be able to legally bet in Minnesota under a proposal advance by the Senate Taxes Committee Thursday, March 7.
Sponsored by Senate Tax Chair Roger Chamberlain, R-Lino Lakes, the measure, if approved, would allow the state to regulate and tax the activity, which is occurring illegally throughout the country, according to Chamberlain. The state would tax 6.75 percent of the net revenue of the wagers--all the wagers less the prizes paid. The amount collected would be deposited in the state's general fund and one-half percent of the revenue would be designated for compulsive gambling treatment, as with other state-approved gambling.
The bill was referred to the State Government Committee.
