18:06Now PlayingMinnesota would adopt standard time throughout the year, under a proposal approved by the Senate State Government Committee Tuesday, March 12. Sponsored by Chair Mary Kiffmeyer, R-Big Lake, the bill originally called for Daylight Saving Time (DST) as the annual standard; however, the federal government prohibits using DST throughout the year.
Kiffmeyer said studies of moving the time ahead one hour have demonstrated a rise in car crashes, days missed from work, and workplace injuries. Kiffmeyer explained that Congress is considering making DST the actual standard time. If the change is made by Congress, Minnesota would adopt the new time.
The bill was forwarded to the Local Government Committee.
