0:51Now PlayingThe Senate comes into session Thursday, March 26, to take up a third round of emergency funding in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lawmakers are expected to approve financial assistance to needy families, childcare centers, food shelves and meal support for the elderly. They also are expected to direct additional dollars for loans to small businesses and to provide isolated shelter for ill homeless people as well as increased staffing and supplies for homeless shelters.
Today’s floor session will not look like a regular floor session because lawmakers are following the guidance of the Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control by maintaining safe levels of social distancing. Senators will be spread throughout the chamber and in small groups in nearby rooms, watching the session on television, rotating into the chamber as needed.
