1:01:24Now PlayingWith unanimous approval, the Minnesota legislature is one step closer to enacting an emergency insulin program following a conference committee teleconference meeting Wednesday, April 8.
The Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act would create a safety-net program for Minnesotans with diabetes. Under the proposal, a Minnesota resident with less than a seven-day supply of insulin could obtain an emergency 30-day supply from a pharmacy for $35. That encounter with the pharmacy would then trigger interactions with either the insulin manufacturer or state programs to ensure the individual has an ongoing supply of insulin.
It is expected that the measure will come before the full legislature Tuesday, April 14.
