24:25Now PlayingVia an online video conference Wednesday, April 16, which included bill sponsors and advocates, Governor Tim Walz signed into law the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act.
Under the new law, diabetics will be afforded a safety-net program to secure their life-supporting insulin. A Minnesota resident with less than a seven-day supply can obtain an emergency 30-day supply from a pharmacy for $35 dollars. The encounter with the pharmacy will trigger interactions with either the insulin manufacturer or state programs to ensure the individual has an ongoing supply of insulin.
