3:26Now PlayingThe Court directed State to seriously look into a large amount of complaints about government officials taking money to provide e-pass during the pandemic period.
E-pass was introduced by State after several levels of talks with the expert committee and medical team.
E-pass is only issued for a medical emergency, to attend a wedding, to reach out to stranded family member or to attend a funeral to travel between districts and State has boasted that the method has helped in containing the spread of COVID-19 to a great extent.
However, e-pass related scams were being exposed since May where 5 men from various government offices in Tamil Nadu were arrested. Recently a person from Vellore was also arrested for issuing e-pass for money.
The Court called those involved as cut-throat officials who are blood thirsty wolves and that they should be dealt with an iron hand.
Interestingly the matter came to light when the court was hearing a case over adolescent boy and girls from Thiruvannamalai district being employed at Thiruppur district.
