25:05Now PlayingOn the Urban Debate today, Afrida Rahman Ali discusses the pitfalls and the important concerns regarding the reopening of school. In the fifth phase of unlocking, everything has opened up or will be opened up including the gyms, malls and cinema halls as well. But, several states continue to defer the reopening of schools.
Maharashtra and Gujarat government have said that they will consider reopening of schools after Diwali, Uttar Pradesh government stated that schools for students will reopen for classes 9th-12th, from Oct 19th, while the other states have still not decided on this issue. But the real question is, whether our schools are ready for this new normal that we are stepping into?
To discuss the same, Afrida is joined by Dr Tanmay Mahapatra, Anubha Sahai, Samir Dalwai and Gurumurthy Kasinathan. Gurumurthy Kasinathan states that the solution doesn't lie in opening schools closed or open entirely. The decision is with the states and the districts. Samir Dalwai states that a decision has to be taken at a district-level based on certain parameters. The number of new cases in the district has to be decreasing in the preceding 2 weeks, and the case positivity rate should be less than 5%.
