The Election Commission of India has agreed to postpone the date of polling in Punjab by 6 days in the poll body's meeting today. Earlier, the Punjab polls were scheduled to go to the polls on February 14, and the election results were to be declared on March 10. However, several requests from the Congress Punjab Chief Charanjit Singh Channi & other parties across including BJP, Punjab Lok Congress and AAP sought a deferment of the polls. The political parties cited that many Scheduled Cast voters will be travelling to Varanasi on account of Guru Ravidas Jayanti which falls on February 16.
