20:04Now PlayingIn this episode of The Urban Debate with Shreya Dhoundial, we will deliberate on the COP Summit, which is being held at Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt. With last year's COP summit in Glasgow concluding to hold global temperatures to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, it seems like whether or not this aim will provide the globe some much-needed breathing space or simply a false reassurance will be answered in this year's 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference. This year's summit is known as COP 27, which started yesterday in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt. The war in Ukraine has plunged Europe into the darkness with an Energy crisis. As most countries formerly dependent on Russia are now forced to find other alternatives due to the sharp increase in geopolitical tensions in the area, these countries are left to wonder how they will fare through winter. Adding on, in spite of China being the top polluter, it is to be noted that the Chinese head of state, Xi Jinping, will not be attending COP27. India has maintained its position of advocating better-developed countries to engage in 'climate finance to developing countries to manage pollutants in developing countries. Environment Editor ToI Vishwa Mohan said, "Developed countries won't agree for compensation & liability; what they'll agree for is cooperation & facilitation for poor & vulnerable countries."
