YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn this episode of Beyond The Headlines, the host Tamanna Inamdar will be discussing how it is undoubtedly difficult work for the Election Commission of India (ECI). It is by no means an easy effort to hold free and fair elections in a nation that is always and continuously in election mode, with political parties of all colours and pressures of varying degrees. Even while the ECI has usually been successful in its work, high-stakes elections always provide scenarios where the ECI must not only be fair, but also appear fair and unbiased.
We are joined by a few panelists.
"We have been demanding this since past 25 years. Most powerful Election Commission in the world has weakest system of appointment," says Dr. S.Y. Quraishi, Former Chief Election Commissioner.
“Having CJI in all discussion is not the solution, we need to find a mechanism which will solve the problem of political interference,” says Namit Saxena, Advocate.
"We need to broaden the election process so element of bias can be ruled out," says Adv Colin Gonsalves, Senior Advocate SC.
"We need honest umpiring in Election Commission Of India," says Sanjay Hegde, Senior Advocate SC.
"We all should look for suggestions to strengthen Election Commission Of India but Supreme Court Of India should also look within," says Karan Verma, Author.
