Initially introduced by Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Ed Markey in the USA, the the Green New Deal has become one of the most talked-about policy proposals of recent years, garnering the support of progressives internationally. As nations seek to rebuild following the COVID-19 pandemic, support for the policy package has taken on a renewed urgency. Is it possible that the post- COVID world will provide nations with a unique opportunity to redesign a more sustainable economy? Or, will the economic slump caused by the global shutdown only be recovered with more aggressive production and capitalist endeavour?

Howie Hawkins
Green Party nominee for the 2020 US presidential election. In 2010, he became the first politician to include the Green New Deal in an election platform during his New York gubernatorial campaign.
Hannah Martin
Co-Executive Director of Green New Deal UK. She has previously organised with Greenpeace, the anti-fracking movement, and the Student Climate Network.
Gillian Caldwell
Former CEO of Global Witness, strategic consultant on environmental issues and producer of documentary drama Citizen Koch.
