If you have an immigration court date coming up, there’s something that could completely change how you prepare 🚨 Your first hearing, the master calendar hearing, is no longer a routine step, it’s now a moment where you could lose your case if you’re not ready. It used to be a basic check-in where the judge reviewed your notice to appear and confirmed your information ⚖️ Now, ICE prosecutors are often filing motions to pretermit right at the start. That means they’re asking the judge to throw out your case without ever hearing your asylum story. They may argue your application wasn’t filled out correctly or that you should seek asylum in a third country 💼 Some of those countries don’t have functioning asylum systems and may not be safe. If you’re not prepared to respond, your case could be dismissed immediately.
