Civil rights attorney Ben Crump revealed the findings from Nolan Wells’ independent autopsy during a news conference at the NAACP National Convention in Chicago.

The report found that Nolan’s cause and manner of death were undetermined pending further investigation. According to Crump, the doctor who performed the autopsy could not rule out foul play.

The second autopsy also found red discoloration on the back of Nolan’s head. But Crump said the examination had serious gaps because some body parts were missing and some procedures had not been completed.

Those gaps prevented the doctor from fully examining Nolan’s neck and from reaching a final conclusion about how he died.

After Crump revealed the findings, Roland Martin addressed questions about why the results were presented in Chicago and led the RMU panel discussion on the incomplete investigation, the sheriff’s early declaration that there was no foul play and the family’s continuing demand for answers.
