Trump and MAGA are not only attacking birthright citizenship. Rep. Analilia Mejia says they are carrying out a systematic “death by a thousand paper cuts” assault on the 14th Amendment and the constitutional protections rooted in Black struggle.
Mejia joins Roland Martin to explain how the 14th Amendment protects due process, equal protection, public education, housing, bodily autonomy, marriage rights and collective bargaining. She warns that weakening due process for Black and brown immigrants also creates a direct threat to Black political power.
She rejects attempts to divide Black Americans and immigrant communities, calling that division a strategy of white supremacy. Mejia says the House Democratic Caucus’ Defend the 14th Amendment Task Force will educate the public, assess how these rights have been stripped away and prepare to restore and protect them for generations.
“The Huns are at the gate,” Mejia warns. “There has been a systematic attack on these rights and we have to stand up for it or we’re gonna lose them for generations.”
