Geraldo Rivera put Bill O’Reilly on the spot with a simple question: Did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?
Instead of plainly saying yes, O’Reilly dodged. He said there was no evidence Trump won, insisted Geraldo’s conclusion was an opinion, and argued that claiming Trump won was not a lie but an “opinion.” Geraldo pushed back, saying Trump lost and condemning the violence unleashed at the U.S. Capitol.
Roland Martin then played the exchange and unloaded on O’Reilly. Roland called O’Reilly a hypocrite and a liar, mocked his claim that he offers audiences an honest alternative to corrupt media, and pointed out that O’Reilly destroyed his own argument by refusing to state the obvious truth about the 2020 election.
The RMU panel also examined the larger danger behind the exchange: the normalization of election denial and the idea that objective facts can be dismissed as personal opinions. They argued that this denialism has been emboldened by Trump, the GOP and right-wing media figures who depend on keeping their audiences angry, misinformed and loyal.
