Voting-rights advocates are sounding the alarm that Black voters in the South are facing a dangerous rollback of hard-won protections.
Roland Martin speaks with activist Angry Melvet and Just Humanity president Kasim Rasheed about a 36-day, 1,000-mile solidarity march from Nashville to Memphis through the Deep South. The goal is to register 100,000 voters, amplify the work already being done by local Black-led organizations and raise support for organizers on the ground.
The guests argue that Supreme Court rulings, racial gerrymandering and voter-suppression tactics are weakening Black political power across the South. They point to the Shelby v. Holder decision, the more recent Clay decision, and the threat of the SAVE Act as part of a larger attack that they say could leave Black voters with fewer protections in 2026 than they had in 1966.
The conversation also focuses on why this fight cannot fall on Black communities alone. Roland presses the broader point that white voters in red states must also be confronted and organized, especially when many are voting against their own interests while benefiting from progressive policies. The segment is ultimately a warning about a Jim Crow-style push backward — and a call to organize, march, register and fight back.
