Haitian immigrants are facing immediate deportation danger after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to move forward with ending TPS protections. Roland Martin speaks with Abraham Paulos of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration and national security and foreign policy expert Johanna Leblanc about the fear now spreading through Haitian communities.
Leblanc explains that the ruling reaches beyond Haitian nationals and could affect more than one million TPS recipients from several countries, along with their children and loved ones. She warns that families could be separated or forced to leave the country together, including relatives who are American citizens.
Paulos says the move reeks of anti-Black racism and builds on white supremacist and white nationalist ideology. He also warns that removing TPS workers could damage healthcare, service industries and local economies. Together, Paulos and Leblanc frame the decision as an attack on Haitian immigrants, Black immigrant communities and Black America.
