Democrats raised nearly $2 billion in 2024, but the investment still did not reflect the Black voters the party depends on to win.

Black political power has been built through generations of organizing, voting-rights battles, and the fight to turn Black votes into governing power. In Florida, voter suppression, the elimination of a Black congressional district, Republican control of state government, and court decisions backing those actions show what happens when political power is consolidated and used to weaken Black voting strength.

Democrats depend on Black voters to win, but the investment has not matched that dependence. Roland points to nearly $2 billion raised in 2024 and questions why the consultants and resources did not reflect where the party’s most reliable votes were coming from. Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever, Host, The Fearless Politics Podcast (National Harbor, MD), says Democrats have treated Black voter investment largely as a turnout operation instead of putting serious resources into persuasion, organizing, and expanding the number of Black voters who participate. At the same time, the party keeps pouring attention into winning white and Trump voters who have repeatedly shown little interest in voting Democratic.

Nearly $2 billion means nothing if Black voters are still treated like a turnout line item. The real power is in who controls the budget, who signs off on the spending, and who gets hired to reach the voters Democrats depend on most. Roland and Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever make the failure plain: Black voters keep delivering, but the investment still does not reflect their importance to the coalition. If Democrats know Black voters are the base that makes the difference, the money should prove it before Election Day, not after.
