Last week the Supreme Court halted multiple Biden administration policies, from regulations from agencies like OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) to Biden’s vaccine mandate for large companies, rules were halted that had done some good in slowing the spread of COVID 19.
All is not lost, however, according to this week’s guest Abdullah Shihipar, a writer and public health researcher at Brown University. While the Supreme Court struck down a number of policies, they did leave an exception to crowded spaces where COVID is an occupational risk. This leaves the door open for regulators to make rules for work environments where very little enforcement has been able to occur.
In order for people to work in tight spaces safely, they need good ventilation, mask mandates, and occupancy limits, which were preserved under this ruling. According to our guest, regulators should institute these rules to cover all workers, regardless of industry. Vaccine mandates are good, but to tackle COVID in a holistic, rigorous, way, we need a multi-pronged strategy.
