Is Biden serious about cutting carbon emissions? According to the administration, it plans to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, but it has simultaneously been begging oil companies to ramp up production to lower the price of oil. If those two things seem contradictory, it’s because they are.
One year into the Biden administration, there have been zero new leases of federal land for oil/gas extraction, though there have been in the gulf of Mexico. The good news is that the people in charge of the Biden’s administration’s leasing of federal lands – i.e. Deb Haaland at the helm of the Interior Department– is not about to sell away a bunch of national parks for fracking. Unlike the previous guy.
