13:31Now PlayingIs Twitter worse than it used to be? Let’s face it: Twitter has been a worse place than it was before Musk took over. Pre-Musk, Twitter was bad for a great number of reasons, but these days the contrived scandals and absurd mismanagement has made it a much less interesting digital space.
Apartheid Billionaire and Twitter CEO Elon Musk may be bragging about an increase in the number of users, but then again, it is human nature to rubber neck. Content moderation is at an all-time low, with Musk making these decisions seemingly based on his own individual interpretations, understanding, and extremely selfish capacity for empathy. Moderation seems almost totally arbitrary at this point, except for the prior Twitter policy of using kid gloves with conservatives and the ban hammer with antifascists, which seems to be intensifying.
Twitter used to be a reasonably nice place to be online. As the Musk-ness of the site intensifies, we can only imagine that the usual characters are going to be harassed off the platform: women, POC, folks with disabilities, and other marginalized folks. Who knows how long until it becomes totally unbearable. Too bad there aren’t any viable alternatives right now.
