It’s not a swing district in a purple state, it’s New York's 16th Congressional District.
Most of the money currently flowing into this race is from groups who oppose the incumbent Democrat and member of the Squad, Jamaal Bowman. Bowman is being targeted by the Israel lobby, specifically the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), over his calls for a ceasefire in Gaza. AIPAC has already shelled out $25 million for Bowman’s opponent George Latimer. Even Democrats like Hillary Clinton are joining the anti-Bowman centrist dogpile, all over his mild critiques of Israel.
Meanwhile conservatives are using AIPAC’s coffers and the war in Gaza to target Democrats who support things that they hate: labor rights, women’s rights, equal protection, and everything in between. Unfortunately, mainstream Democrats are far more concerned with protecting Israel from any level of critique than they are defending the policies the party is supposed to represent.
