AIPAC and its affiliate groups have spent more than $25 million crushing fellow Squad incumbent members Missouri Representative Cori Bush, and New York’s Representative Jamaal Bowman. But the Super PAC did not go all out against Omar.
According to reporting by The Intercept, a WhatsApp group founded by wealthy pro-Israel donors tried to last-minute influence the election in Omar’s opponent Don Samuels’s favor. “I’ve heard dozens of questions of where is AIPAC,” wrote one person in the groupchat. “We are fucking AIPAC now.”
The groupchat which at one point called itself “Jews Against the Squad” also made efforts to get registered Republicans to vote against Omar in the Democratic primary and suggested that they were more aligned with the alt right than so-called socialists. “The bottom line is and it’s a sad one, we need to be supportive ON PRESIDENTIAL LEVEL of the alt right Christian Neo Nazis at the moment (like Ukraine) to fight off the socialist, Marxist, anarchists who are supporting radical Islam,” wrote the member.
