Over the past couple of weeks, Democrats who had been reluctantly supporting Joe Biden have transformed into Kamala fans. When she ran in the 2020 Democratic primary, her campaign didn’t even make it past Iowa, but this time around her campaign is full of momentum heading into the last 90 days. So what changed?
Realistically, there are plenty of reasons to be more excited about Kamala than you were about Biden, for one: she’s not in her eighties. But we don’t need to pretend that she’s going to be our savior. It’s difficult to know how differently Kamala will govern, but so far her own policies threaten to mirror Biden’s exactly, most notably on Palestine and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Perhap Democrats are hoping that regardless of her policy, the excitement itself can be enough to bring out reluctant voters to the polls.
