On Monday evening during a round table discussion about the recent Madison Square Garden Trump rally, right-wing commentator Ryan Girdusky told journalist Mehdi Hasan that he "hopes his beeper doesn't go off" after Mehdi said he supported the Palestinian cause. The reference was to the Israeli attacks on alleged Hezbollah pagers that in fact killed innocent civilians as well.
It's pretty on-brand for Girdusky who is part of an "advisory board" to Project 2025 along with the likes of JD Vance. But he clearly forgot he wasn't in his group chat anymore and was on CNN.
No sooner had the racist line flung out of his mouth, than the backlash began, including by host Abby Phillip who eventually booted Girdusky from the show. Girdusky tried to pivot, pretending like he heard "Hamas" and not "Palestinian" (which doesn't make the line any better or even more accurate) but the dye had been cast and he then started apologizing like a jerk,
For his part, Mehdi remained calm and used the moment to illustrate the fact that so many who deny being fascist or racist then engage in EXTREMELY racist and fascist language ... on primetime no less!
