There are only a few states in play that are going to determine the outcome: Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. The polls in each one of these states are so close that they are each essentially a toss up. You can break these states up into two groups, the Rust Belt (Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania) and the Sun Belt (Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada). If Kamala wins the rust belt, that’s game over for Trump, but things are not looking so rosey in the Blue Wall.
Right now, most polls and models seem to be tipping in the direction of Trump. It’s hard to say whether pollsters are essentially too afraid to predict the opposite, or whether he is outright the favorite in the final days. The possibility of a tied election, 269-269 is rising, as is the possibility that Trump wins the popular vote while losing the electoral college (shocking given that the inverse is a regular occurrence for Democrats). It’s really anyone's guess how this will go.
