as posted by the channelWhy are anti-genocide activists pissed at AOC? Because she voted for Resolution 1449, which adopts a definition of anti-semitism that is linked to the criticism of Israel. Francesca dives deep to explain why the resolution to “combat antisemitism” dangerously allows the criminalization of Palestine protesters. One of the documents cited in the resolution is the definition of antisemitism according to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, sadly conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism. In it, it says that “denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.”
That’s a fairly bold claim, given how the two-tiered apartheid system in Israel and the occupied territories is based on active discrimination and yes, racism. It also says that any comparison between Israeli actions and the actions of the Nazi regime is antisemitic. But why would anyone draw that comparison…? Makes you wonder.
Thankfully not all progressive House members voted for this ridiculous bill. Rep. Ilhan Omar took a stand against it as well as Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Cori Bush were the ONLY Democrats to not buy into the bogus criminalization of Palestine demonstrators.
