33:32Now Playing“I’m Fine” Is Bullsh*t: Why Emotionally Numb Men Are Destroying Relationships (and Themselves)
“I’m good.”
“I’m fine.”
“I dunno... I just don’t feel much.”
Translation: I’ve been emotionally neutered by years of Man Box conditioning and now I can’t access a single f*cking feeling beyond mild irritation and the urge to fix things.
Sound familiar? That’s because most men are emotionally disconnected—and it’s not an accident.
It’s a survival skill, drilled into us since childhood: "Don’t cry. Don’t feel. Don’t be a pussy."
Congrats, you made it through your teenage years with your masculinity intact… and now your marriage is circling the drain because your partner feels like she’s living with a damn houseplant.
Here’s the kicker:
**75% of divorces in the U.S. are initiated by women**, and the #1 reason I keep hearing is,
“I just can’t connect with him.”
Why? Because emotional numbness isn’t sexy, supportive, or sustainable.
It’s a relationship killer.
And beneath this epidemic of blank stares and “I’m fine” lies a very real, very under-the-radar issue:
alexithymia
—a two dollar clinical word for “no words for emotions.”
It's not just emotional constipation—it’s emotional illiteracy. And it’s been linked to:
- Infidelity
- Constant relationship fights
- Depression and anxiety
- Chronic pain
- Heart disease and high blood pressure
- Even GI problems (yep, your repressed sadness might be giving you the sh*ts)
So if you’re tired of being numb, disconnected, or quietly miserable—and maybe tired of hearing “we need to talk” followed by silence and tears—this episode of *The Evolved Caveman* is your wake-up call.
Dr. John Schinnerer breaks it all down: why we got this way, how it’s hurting us, and what the hell we can do about it.
Because “I’m fine” isn’t cutting it anymore. Not for your partner. Not for your health. Not for your life.
And...it's not your fault. You didn't ASK to be socialized like this, it just happens. However, it IS your responsibility to evolve beyond it.
