The Associated General Contractors of America found that 88% of contractors reported difficulty filling positions even before the current enforcement wave. Pew Research puts immigrant workers at 25% of the entire U.S. construction workforce — citizens, green card holders, visa holders included. The Federal Reserve has directly linked construction labor shortages to rising housing costs nationwide. ICE's own chilling effect isn't just hitting undocumented workers. It's hitting legal workers, it's hitting American-owned businesses, and it's hitting the housing market that working-class MAGA voters were promised would get better.
This is the extraction machine at work. Trump sold protection for American workers. What got delivered was a fear campaign so aggressive that legally authorized workers won't leave the house — leaving American contractors without crews, American projects without workers, and American housing costs without relief. The man on that video voted for it three times. The receipt doesn't care.
